Sanita became Ireland’s first ever female rowing World Champion when she won a gold medal at the Rowing World Championships in Bulgaria in September 2018.
Mental strength is core to her achievements and as an athlete and as a mother, in ‘double jobbing’ she has had her mental strength tested many times, yet always comes back stronger.
Sanita competed for Latvia at a junior level winning a bronze medal at the World u-23 Championships in 2003, and a gold in the double scull at the World Student Games in 2005.
She moved to Ireland in 2006, began competing for Ireland from 2010, and was the sole rowing competitor for Ireland in the 2012 Olympics where she reached the quarter finals. 2009 and 2010 Irish Single Sculls Champion, and 2010 double sculls champion as well. 2014 European Championship Silver medallist, 2016 European Championship Bronze medallist, 2017 World Championship 4th place, and what a year in 2018 – 2 World Cup silver medals, and the gold medal that made her World Champion.
She is a genuine contender for Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics!
