Swim Ireland is the national governing body responsible for promoting swimming in Ireland at all levels, from beginner, to Olympians, to later in life activity.

Swim Ireland has a network of 166 affiliated clubs across the Island of Ireland, is a 32-county body and is the only awarding body recognised by both Sport Ireland and Sport NI and are recognised at world level by FINA, and at European level by LEN.

Over 290,000 adults swim in Ireland every week, making swimming one of the most popular sports in the country. The European Championships of 2018 were the most successful every for Ireland with Shane Ryan winning a bronze medal in the 50M Backstroke and numerous Irish records were broken by a host of young swimmers new to competing at senior level, so the outlook at an elite level is excellent.
